The Islanders (16-5, 7-2) led by as many as 11 points – and for nearly 33 out of 40 minutes – but a late run by the Cardinals (11-8, 6-2) handed the Blue and Green its fifth loss of the 2015-16 season.

A&M-Corpus Christi led 61-60 with 2:13 remaining in the game when senior Hameed Ali knocked down a pair of free throws as a part of a one-man 4-0 spurt.

On UIW's next possession, junior Rashawn Thomas was called for his fifth personal foul and the subsequently two technical fouls.  The Cardinals, in the double bonus, made all six free throws to take a five-point lead they would not relinquish.

"We have some small things that we need to fix that turn into big things on game day," Head Coach Willis Wilson said after the game. "Tonight was one of those nights, like the last one, that exposed those things.

"A lot of good teams get beat this time of the year," Wilson continued. "The mark of a good team, however, is not how far they fall, it's how high they climb when they get up. We need to get up right now."

The Islanders led by 11 points twice in the first half, for the last time at 21-10 on a dunk by Thomas with 9:21 to play in the period.  The Cardinals fought back, scoring the final 10 points to take a 30-29 lead into halftime.

A 10-2 Islander run early in the first half put the momentum back in their favor, but mistakes down the stretch cost the Blue and Green their second loss in league play.

Thomas led the Islanders in scoring with 22 points and added three blocks.  Bryce Douvier recorded a game high 10 rebounds and also blocked three shots.  Ali finished the night with 14 points, six assists and three steals.

Jontrell Walker led the Cardinals with 23 points, while Derall Green added 20.  Mitchell Badillo chipped in with 12 points and three steals.

A&M-Corpus Christi will return home to host Sam Houston State Saturday at the American Bank Center.  The homecoming game is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. with coverage on Root Sports and the Islanders Digital Network.
