Islanders Win Streak Snapped at Six Games

"The truth of the matter is I didn't think we came out with very much energy, very much focus," Head Coach Willis Wilson said after the game. "It felt like we had some opportunities and we didn't convert, and we lost a lot of confidence over the course of the game."

Senior Jelani Currie scored the first basket of the game, but after a free throw and layup by Wisconsin's Nigel Hayes, the Islanders (7-3) never led again.  The Badgers (7-5) led by as many as nine points in the first half and took a 27-19 advantage into the break.

A&M-Corpus Christi got as close as four points when a jumper by sophomore Joe Kilgore was followed up by a steal and two free throws from senior Hameed Ali.  The Islanders trailed 33-29, but couldn't get over the hump.

Wisconsin extended its lead to as much as 17 before cruising to the 64-49 victory and snapping its two-game losing streak.  The Badgers' legendary head coach Bo Ryan announced his retirement following the game.

Ali and junior Rashawn Thomas led the Islanders with 12 points each, while Kilgore chipped in with 10 off the bench.  The Islanders shot just 32.8 percent from the floor and recorded assists on just five of their 19 field goals.

"The great thing about basketball is you get to do it again soon," Wilson said. "We've got to put this one behind us."

A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action on Sunday at home.  The Islanders host Cal Poly at the American Bank Center at 2 p.m.
