Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the Islander Athletic Fund?

A. The Islander Athletic Fund (IAF) is the official fundraising organization of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Athletics. Gifts to the IAF support the scholarships and overall experience for the student-athletes who compete in our 16 NCAA Division I sports on the Island. Annual donations are directly applied towards student-athlete scholarships and sport operating budgets, and help strengthen our goal of winning championships with integrity.

Q. Why is a donation to the IAF so important to Islanders Athletics?

A. The costs of operating a Division I athletics program continue to rise. Though we are a state university, we are unable to use State of Texas funding for our athletics program. Community support is vital to helping us complete our mission of developing and preparing student-athletes for lifelong success. Your gift to the IAF powers the spirit of every diploma and every championship banner, and your impact carries on for generations.

Q. Are contributions to the IAF tax deductible?

A. Yes, with restrictions. According to IRS regulations, the tax deductible amount of a donation is reduced by the cost of any tangible benefits received by the donor. Donations to the IAF that provide preferential seating rights for athletic events are 80% tax deductible per Federal tax law. Gifts to the IAF that do not provide preferential seating rights or other benefits may be fully deductible. Please consult your tax professional as to how the rules apply to your circumstances and the allowable deduction.

Q. What is the IAF annual membership year?

A. The IAF operates on a fiscal year calendar, in line with the University calendar. Therefore, IAF memberships begin September 1 and end August 31 of the following year. Donors who make a gift during this timeframe will receive benefits at the respective gift level through August 31, unless the gift is being made as a renewal gift for the next IAF membership year.

Q. How does my IAF gift apply to preferred basketball season ticket locations at the American Bank Center?

Women’s Basketball Only season tickets in the Floor section require a $250 per-seat IAF scholarship fund donation. IAF donors at the Islander level and above will receive one hospitality pass for each basketball season ticket purchased.
